DENTAL ASSISTANT


The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of customer service, patient experience, and four-handed dentistry. Dental Assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. Dental Assistants prepare patients for oral examination and assist dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. Dental Assistants must work effectively with co-workers to create a positive environment for the team and patients, must support the office policies and standards, and participate in the growth and future of the organization.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform functions in accordance with the applicable state Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties
  • Actively participate in providing patients and extraordinary customer service experience by striving to keep your patients focused on optimal treatment while attending to their individual needs and concerns
  • Properly introduce yourself to patients and escort them through the office as needed
  • Maintain a clean, sterile, and cheerful environment
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment; clean each operatory in accordance with state applicable infection control guidelines
  • Prepare patients for treatment and assist the clinician with providing efficient, quality dental treatment
  • At the direction of the dentist, complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures of patients in an efficient and timely manner
  • Prepare tray setups for dental procedures and maintain supply level in each operatory, replenishing as needed to provide optimal patient care
  • Keep patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices directed by the clinician
  • Instruct patient on post-operative care and general oral health care as directed by the clinician
  • Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health history to the clinician
  • Ensure equipment is maintained according to manufacturer's guidelines
  • Utilize technology by learning how to operate and give explanation/demonstration of how to operate equipment to other team members
  • Maintain an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor
  • Maintain strict compliance with state, federal, and other regulatory agencies (OSHA, WC, Dental Board, HIPAA, ADA, HR policies)
  • Other duties as directed by clinicians and management
