Job Overview
The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) announces an examination process to create an eligibility list to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Epidemiologist in the Disease Surveillance & Control Division. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to four (4) months.
This position will be working with wastewater based surveillance.
This position is funded by a grant and the continuation of the position depends on the availability of grant funds and the business requirements of SNHD. If the funding is discontinued or becomes unavailable, your employment may be terminated without the right to appeal.
Responsible for conducting disease surveillance and recommend disease control measures; evaluates public health data including unusual occurrences of health conditions; functions as a member of a multidisciplinary outbreak investigation and response team; provides epidemiologic information to the medical community and general public
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in epidemiology or public health with major course work in epidemiology and one (1) year of experience, post degree, working in epidemiology, epidemiologic research, or public health disease investigation.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Valid Nevada Driver License, or ability to obtain, with ninety (90) days of employment.
Preferred Qualification:
Statistical analysis experience preferred.
Knowledge of environmental health and the role of waste water in public health surveillance preferred.
An understanding of laboratory methods for detecting pathogens in waste water preferred.
