Description

The Licensed Clinical Social Worker provides professional social work services within the health department setting to families who are in need of behavioral health services. Working in concert with the client, agency staff, and community members the LCSW screens for social determinants of health, depression, and anxiety; addresses barriers to receiving adequate care for optimal health specifically for BIPOC populations; addresses behavioral health issues to include short-term counseling; triage clients to specialized agencies for additional assistance, long-term counseling, and treatment.

Examples of Duties

The following functions represent the majority of the duties performed by the position but is not meant to be all-inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Complete a needs assessment regarding the social work needs of clients and current utilization within the Tulsa Health Department with the support of the LCSW Supervisor and the Manager of MCH.
  2. Provide a plan of coverage along with existing staff and programs consulting with other LCSWs and the LCSW Supervisor, program managers, and as approved by the Manager of MCH.
  3. Implement a short-term counseling component (up to 6 sessions) along with LCSW Supervisor.
  4. Interview clients and their families in the clinic setting, and complete appropriate health screenings, including but not limited to depression and ACES to identify specific needs and make appropriate referrals to both internal programs and community services.
  5. Communicates and collaborates on client care with related THD staff including MCH Social Workers, Clinic staff, Maternal Child Health Manager, outreach workers, etc.
  6. Attends training on and completes follow-up on critical client needs including issues of trauma, violence, safety planning, completion of referrals, and consults with other social workers and THD team members for planning for multi-problem family issues.
  7. Completes required documentation/follow-up on a timely basis, including client contact, MCH database forms, progress notes, and screening tools.
  8. Staff client concerns regularly with the LCSW Supervisor and other MCH social workers.
  9. Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and conferences as they relate to the position, quality assurance activities, and appropriate in-service.
  10. Completes monthly time and effort reports and attends appropriate THD-wide staff meetings.
  11. Other duties as assigned, including those required to fulfill activities in support of public health emergency operations.

Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s in social work required.
Experience:
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques required to evaluate psycho-social issues; provide intervention, triage, and community referrals; and provide client education.
  • Familiarity with BIPOC populations, health disparities, and ability to engage and serve this population effectively
  • Three years of experience as a social worker working with families in a medical setting or counseling preferred
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision.
  • Skilled in interviewing clients, and in working with agency staff and community resources.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and good communication skills are required to provide effective client counseling and obtain cooperation from clients who come from a wide range of economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Excellent skills in planning and organization of multiple duties.
Licenses:
  • Clinically licensed as a Social Worker by the State of Oklahoma required.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

Supplemental Information

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Regular internal contact with staff including nursing staff to coordinate care or referrals for clients.
  • Will have external contact with outside agencies to exchange information to coordinate care, referrals, and programs for clients.
  • Expected to form therapeutic, professional relationships with clients and positive professional relationships with coworkers.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/ACCOUNTABILITY:
Direct Supervision – None
Indirect Supervision – None.
Budget/Money/Material – Responsible for assigned equipment.
Reports to – LCSW Supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Regular exposure to a high-volume, fast-paced clinic.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must maintain client record confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to perform job-related travel (home visits/training/etc.).
