Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Medical Director with an Illinois Physician and Surgeon license with a specialty in Psychiatry. Board Certification is required to provide medical leadership and oversight of the psychiatry services provided at the Madden Mental Health Center located in Hines Illinois, Cook County. Madden Mental Health Center strives to provide equitable access to social/human services, supports, programs and resources to enhance the lives of all who we serve.


Job Responsibilities



  1. Serves as the Medical Director with full responsibility for the administration of medical/clinical and psychiatric care services provided by licensed medical staff.




  2. Administratively responsible for all medical, psychiatric nursing, social service and psychological treatment provided to patients on all units of the Center.




  3. With approval of the Hospital Chief Executive Officer, establishes patient care standards for the entire facility, as well as, admission treatment and discharge policy.




  4. Serves as full-line supervisor.




  5. Provides consultation to the Hospital Chief Executive Officer on clinical matters and community agencies.




  6. Examines patients for certification under the Mental Health Code. Reviews all restraint and seclusion authorizations.




  7. Serves as an active high-ranking member of key facility management and treatment committees including the Hospital Executive Committee.




  8. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.




Minimum Qualifications



  1. Requires a valid State of Illinois Physician and Surgeon License.




  2. Requires an American Board Certification in the job-related medical specialty of Psychiatry.




  3. Requires three (3) years of substantive medical administrative experience in the directing, planning and evaluating a medical/clinical program. 




Preferred Qualifications



  1. Two (2) years of professional experience working with professional health services, disciplines and program support functions which must be coordinated in administering a comprehensive medical health program.




  2. Two (2) years of professional experience managing and evaluating the delivery of medical care, treatment, and services.




  3. Two (2) years of professional experience supervising staff in the medical field as well as other medical professionals.




  4. Two (2) years of professional experience, preferably five (5) years, recommending changes to medical service programs.




  5. Two (2) years of professional experience providing technical medical training and assistance to internal and/or external stakeholders.




  6. Two (2) years of professional experience communicating with both internal and/or external stakeholders daily on medical services.




  7. Two (2) years of professional experience performing quality assurance assessments on medical services and treatments provided to patients and/or individuals.




  8. Two (2) years of professional experience as a physician working with concepts and practices in psychiatry medicine.




  9. Two (2) years of professional experience investigating and reporting on incidents.




Conditions of Employment



  1. Requires the possession of a valid Illinois Controlled Substance License.




  2. Requires the possession of a valid United States Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate of Registration.




  3. Requires the ability to meet the requirements of and be appointed to the medical staff association of Madden Mental Health Center within 30 days of employment.




  4. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.  




  5. Requires the ability to walk and stand for a significant period of time, including stooping, bending, lifting or exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.




  6. Requires the ability to participate in patient management interventions that may include participating in restraint interventions.




  7. Requires the ability to maintain current Basic Life Support Certification.




  8. Requires the ability to testify in court.




  9. Requires the ability to serve as Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) after business hours, weekends and holidays in case of emergency.  




  10. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.




  11. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Term Appointment:
