Position Summary:
The Mental Health Therapist/Staff Psychologist/Psychologist Candidate is part of a team of mental health professionals dedicated to providing confidential, accessible, and culturally responsive mental health services to UNC students as well as to UNC faculty/staff utilizing the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Team members tailor interventions to clients' individual strengths and needs. This position provides individual, couples and group counseling services to a caseload of clients, as well as consultation services in support of meeting students' academic and personal needs. This position provides guidance and support to students, staff, and faculty to ensure that community behavioral health needs are met with compassion, respect, and cultural sensitivity. This position is part of a team that is committed to addressing health inequities. The UNC Counseling Center is a part of the UNC Department of Student Affairs and strives to implement practices to remove barriers to care, create belonging among community members, and support student success.
Job Duties:
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Education: A person hired into this position as a Licensed Psychologist or Psychologist Candidate must have a doctoral degree that qualifies them for licensure (or future licensure) in Colorado as a psychologist. A Mental Health Therapist hired into this position must have a minimum of a Master's degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or other closely related field that qualifies them for licensure either currently or in the future as a counselor, social worker, or marriage and family therapist in Colorado.
2. Experience: One year of counseling experience (at a minimum a candidate should have completed multiple practical and/or internships in providing counseling to a client population). Experience providing clinical services to diverse populations. Experience responding to and managing client crises. Prefer at least one year experience working in a university counseling center.
3. Certification/Registration/Licensing: Licensed or license-eligible as a counselor, social worker, marriage and family therapist or psychologist in Colorado within 24 months of hire.
4. Ability: Strong, specialized skills are required to perform the following clinical responsibilities:
• Must be able to provide high-quality clinical services, including mental health assessment, and individual, couples and group counseling
• Must be able to provide effective counseling services to clients from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, religious, ability, sexual and gender identities.
• Must be able to develop appropriate treatment plans
• Must be able to build professional relationships with referral sources.
• Must be able to work collaboratively with center staff.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality
• Must know state and national legal and ethical mental health codes
• Must be able to develop and deliver outreach programming
• Must have strong organizational skills
• Must have excellent case management skills.
• Must have skills in consulting and crisis intervention.
• Must also possess good oral, written and interpersonal skills.
• This individual must demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice.
• Must have basic word-processing, presentation, and e-mail computer skills and have ability to learn Microsoft Office programs. Ability to accurately assign DSM-V-TR diagnoses.
•Strong consulting skills. Strong crisis assessment and intervention skills.
5. Special Considerations: Individual must be able to function well under stress and work as a team player with other members of the department and the university.

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.
