Summary


Job Summary



Cares for neonatal patients in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and/or newborn nursery (NBN) setting, with consultation and general direct or indirect collaboration from a neonatologist. Exercises independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes and procedures.

Job Responsibilities



  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination.

  • Gathers pertinent information systemically from all sources: perinatal history, diagnostic tests, comprehensive physical examination, behavioral and developmental assessments.

  • Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies.

  • Analyzes multiple sources of data in making clinical judgments and in determining effectiveness of a plan of care along with development of problem list with associated differential diagnoses.

  • Accurately and appropriately performs routine diagnostic and therapeutic techniques according to established protocol and current standards for neonatal nurse practitioner practice, including attendance at high risk deliveries and initiation of neonatal resuscitation.

  • Evaluate infant physiological and behavioral resources to interventions for revision of management plan and update neonatologist as needed.

  • Provides accurate and timely documentation of assessment and patient care plan.

  • Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning changing healthcare needs of their infant(s), preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.

  • Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare



    providers or community resources.

  • Keep knowledge base current by reading professional literature, attending educational programs, identifying potential areas for neonatal research, and participate in research as directed.

  • Assists with policy development, quality assurance measures, and development of in-service education programs including review and evaluation of neonatal nurse practitioner practice protocols.



Qualifications



  • Master's degree or higher in Nursing required upon hire

  • A minimum of 3 years' relevant experience required

  • RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Eligible to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky required upon hire AND

  • APRN - Licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND

  • APRN - National certification as Neonatal Nurse Practitioner from National Certification Corporation (NCC) required upon hire AND

  • NRP - Certified as a Neonatal Resuscitation Program Provider required upon hire
