SUMMARY
The Inpatient Med/Psych Unit Psychiatrist will provide inpatient psychiatric services to support the care of children and adolescents with comorbid mental and physical health conditions as the leader of a multidisciplinary team including pediatrics, psychology, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutrition, psychiatric nursing, mental health technicians, and care coordination.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide direct patient care and oversight as leader of multidisciplinary team.
• Works collaboratively with patients to improve their health and well-being.
• Provide comprehensive evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment plans or interventions to child and adolescent patients and their families in a manner consistent with CT Children’s policies.
• Assess both medical and psychiatric information including patient presentation, differential diagnosis, psychopharmacology needs, and psychotherapeutic needs.
• Review medical records, test results, lab reports, and consultations as necessary.
• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric intakes, perform follow-ups as indicated per treatment plan, prescribe medication when indicated, create and update treatment plans, and facilitate referral to aftercare services and/or community support systems as appropriate.
• Complete accurate and relevant electronic progress notes, prescriptions, and Treatment Authorization Requests.
• Provide supervision and teaching for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellows, General Psychiatry residents, other residents requiring psychiatry training, medical students, and other indicated learners.
• Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.
• Comply with scheduling and billing practices of the department.
• May provide care in an ambulatory clinic, medical floors and ED as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Academic appointment may be available with the University of Connecticut.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Graduate from accredited school of medicine required
• Successful completion of a Psychiatry residency required
• Successful completion of a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship required
• Prior experience in Med/Psych settings or consultation-liaison services preferred
LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
• Current, and maintained, unrestricted license to practice in the State of CT
• Current, and maintained, DEA with Controlled Substance licensure
• Board certification / Board Eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry required
• BLS
• Appropriate annual CME units based on the requirements of the specifying board
