Position Function:
Perform the functions of a staff Pharmacist in accordance with the Mississippi Pharmacy Practice Act and the regulations of the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy pertaining to a permitted Institutional Pharmacy. (Requirements found in Articles VII and XXIX, MS Board of Pharmacy Regulations) Must also adhere to the regulations of the Board of Veterinary Medicine and MS Veterinary Practice Act. This is a time-limited position for May 2024 - November 2024.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs duties and tasks of a veterinary pharmacist under the policies of the College of Veterinary Medicine in compliance with state and federal pharmacy and veterinary practice laws and regulations
• Is responsible for the safe and efficient distribution, control, and accountability for drugs within the facility
• Manages staff to provide safe and efficient drug dispensing
• Supervises activities of technicians
• Adheres to all state and federal pharmacy permits
• Works in conjunction with the Senior Pharmacist and Hospital Director in developing and enforcing policies that assure adequate security is maintained on drugs in all areas of the permitted facility at all times and is responsible for reporting any loss or suspected loss of controlled substances or legend drugs directly to the Senior Pharmacist who will ensure notification of the Board immediately
• With the Senior Pharmacist, is responsible for DEA controlled substances within the institution from the time of purchase until they have been administered to the patient
• Monitors for discontinued and outdated drugs and sees that they are returned to the pharmacy for proper disposition together with containers with worn, illegible or missing labels. The pharmacists shall ensure proper disposal of such drugs
• Provides assistance and drug reference for referring veterinarians, faculty and pharmacy technicians
• Assists with maintaining drug references and educational information for students and faculty
• Assists with maintaining records of all sterile and non-sterile compounded products
• Assists with educating precept pharmacy students for participating pharmacy schools
• Encouraged to seek board certification in veterinary pharmacy through the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution
2. Must be licensed as a Pharmacist in the state of Mississippi.
3. Must be in good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy and be able to practice without restriction.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited school of Pharmacy
2. Training in veterinary pharmacology (may include academic courses, continuing education programs, veterinary pharmacology clerkships or residencies
3. Certification in sterile compounding (USP 797)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1.Knowledge base in accordance with standards of the profession
2. Ability to operate computerized pharmacy management system
3. Ability to compound sterile and non-sterile medications and maintain a functioning clean room
4. Thorough knowledge of safe-handling policies and procedures for anti-neoplastic agents and other hazardous medications
5. Excellent communications skills
6. Professional presence and adherence to appropriate standards of ethical behavior
7. Ability to comply with dress code
