JOB TITLE: SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER




REPORTS TO: Principal and Special Education Director




SUMMARY: Social Worker works with children and youths.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Conduct assessment of student needs

  • Promote regular school attendance

  • Conduct home visits

  • Promote safe, caring, and drug free schools

  • Provide individual counseling

  • Facilitate group counseling

  • Provide crisis intervention services

  • Participate in the evaluation of special education placements

  • Participate in the development of behavioral modification plans

  • Referrals to community agencies

  • Coordination of services with community agencies

  • Coordination of services with other disciplines within the school

  • Serve on the school Crisis Team to promote a safe school environment

  • Implement appropriate programs, groups and initiatives to target at-risk populations (according to the assessment)

  • Maintain accurate and appropriate case records and documentation

  • Maintain a statistical, demographic breakdown of current caseload


Record Keeping



  • Keeps attendance and progress records as required by the Michigan Department of Education.

  • Attends and participates in IEP/504 meetings.

  • Work closely with parents to inform them of their child’s progress and suggest techniques to promote learning at home.


Discipline & Counseling



  • Teaches and enforces Academy rules of conduct and behavior.

  • Maintains order in classroom.

  • Maintains classroom in a neat and clean manner.

  • Counsels students when emotional or academic problems arise.


Other



  • Attends staff meetings and other Academy-related events and activities.

  • Participates in in-service training as assigned.  Attend conferences and seminars and present information to staff.

  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university (or equivalent combination of education and experience). 


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:


Criminal background check and criminal history check required.
