DESCRIPTION OF WORK


As a Social Worker 2, you will deliver social work and case management services to inmates. This includes providing support, guidance, crisis management, and counseling to inmates and their families; motivating inmates to make use of their potential for improving emotional, physical, and mental health circumstances; and assessing inmate psychosocial strengths, weaknesses, and needs for services. This role requires strong verbal communication and listening skills to effectively identify inmate needs and to consult with other facility professionals about appropriate wellness resources.

 Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or Forensic Social Worker 1 (commonwealth titles) (must have been employed in a commonwealth social worker job title on September 8, 2008, with continuous commonwealth employment); or
  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or a Forensic Social Worker 1 and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare; or
  • Two years of professional experience providing direct public or private social work services, and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare; or
  • A master's degree in social work or social welfare.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements:

  • All employees in the Department of Corrections must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within two months of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment in the job.

  

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
