JOB SUMMARY
The staff pharmacist monitors medication therapy to optimize patient outcomes and oversees and directs the use of antimicrobial medications to ensure their appropriate utilization. Assists in the management of the Department of Pharmacy and supervision of the department staff in providing pharmaceutical services in accordance with the mission and vision of West Suburban Medical Center. Performs duties of a registered pharmacist.
This is a staff pharmacist position, with some occasional antimicrobial stewardship tasks. Most of the day will be general staff pharmacist duties.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Level of knowledge acquired through the completion of a Master's degree in Pharmacy or Pharm. D.
- Completion of a hospital pharmacy residency or two (2) to three (3) years’ experience as a registered pharmacist in a hospital setting.
- Current license by the State of Illinois as a Registered Pharmacist.
- The interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work effectively with patients, physicians, and other hospital personnel.
- The demonstrated clinical knowledge of drugs and disease.
- Antimicrobial Stewardship experience preferred
JOB DUTIES

- Assists Director in providing financial management of department assisting in the development and the management of operating budgets.
- Assists in development of short-term and long-term goals.
- Oversees some departmental personnel functions.
- Assures adequate staffing available with posted schedules.
- Reviews and approves timecards.
- Participates in hiring, discipline and termination of pharmacists and technicians.
- Reassigns staff and duties as needed.
- Assists in integrating pharmaceutical services into the needs of the patients, and nursing and medical staff.
- Assists in developing an orientation and training programs for new staff.
- Maintains a core clinical practice area.
- Ensures operations comply with regulatory requirements.
- Participates in ensuring that all pharmaceuticals are appropriately stored and distributed within the institution.
- Assists in reviewing and implementing Policies and Procedures to meet regulatory standards and standards of good practice.
- Design and implement pharmacy-based and hospital-wide performance improvement initiatives to ensure appropriate utilization of antimicrobials (e.g., order set and clinical pathway development, antibiotic time-out processes, automatic IV to PO and antibiotic dose adjustments by pharmacy, antibiotic review at transitions of care)
- Provide ASP performance updates to the Director of Pharmacy, Chief of Infectious Diseases and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, physicians, nurses, and other health care providers
- Provide expertise on appropriate antimicrobial therapy, antibiotic de-escalation, and dose optimization
- Other duties as assigned.
