Role and Responsibilities
Assist the dentist with patient care, the breakdown and disinfection of dental operatories, sterilization of dental instruments, and other specified maintenance procedures of a dental office.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
General Duties:
- Disinfect dental operatories between patient procedures
- Assist the dentist in patient procedures at the dental unit, using four-handed dentistry
- Assist the dentist in the management of consumable supplies
Specific Duties
- Placement, carving, polishing/finishing of amalgam and/or resin restorations
- Obtain and record accurate medical history and vital signs.
- Application of topical, bases/liners, bands and brackets, and matrices
- Removal of coronal cement
- Fabricating, placing, removing temporary crowns
- Gathering information through oral exam
- Application of fluoride
- Gaining alginate impressions
- Pouring models
- Monitoring nitrous
- Exposing radiographs (after certification)
- Placement and removal of retraction cords
- Placement and removal of rubber dams
- Application of sealants
- Removal of sutures
- Daily disinfection of suction hoses
- Communicate effectively with dentist and other members of the dental team.
- All other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monthly chores to maintain equipment, rotate instruments, oiling valves, changing sharps containers, changing of cold sterile disinfectant, and changing traps and filters. Ensuring patient is aware of and informed about procedures, obtaining consent from patients regarding procedures
