Under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, the Medical Assistant will perform non-invasive routine technical supportive services of clinic patient care relating to therapeutic and diagnostic functions, following established policies & procedures, and techniques. The supervising licensed practitioner must be physically present in the treatment facility for the Medical Assistant to perform non-invasive technical supportive services. The Medical Assistant also provides a variety of administrative, assistive & supportive clinical and outreach activities. The Medical Assistant cannot evaluate or synthesize data.
Reports to:
Direct & Administrative: Registered Nurse Supervisor, Program Manager, Clinic Administrator or designee
Technical/Clinical: Licensed Independent Practitioner in consultation with the Director of Nursing Services or designee
Qualifications for Medical Assistant I:
1. High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is preferred.
2. Completion of a secondary or postsecondary Medical Assistant education program from a public school authorized by the Department of Education, or an approved Medical Assistant program at a postsecondary institution accredited or approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education.

Medical Assistant I must meet the following additional requirements:
1. Must maintain a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR Policy.
2. Displays qualities of dependability and reliability, be willing to accept a variety of tasks, and able to comprehend quickly and follow instructions accurately.
3. Be able to communicate tactfully and empathetically, with cultural sensitivity; with staff, patients, and family members.
4. Write and print legibly.
5. Be well groomed and display mature behavior.
6. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
7. Must be willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of NEVHC and its patients.
8. Must maintain or exceed Medical Assistant competency levels as established by corporate standards for clinical practice.
9. Must demonstrate through written and oral testing, the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and has knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He or she can identify and categorize each patient's age-specific group needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, adult or geriatric patients.
10. Fluency in English (speaks, read and write).
11. Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translate, read and write) and must complete the mandatory Medical Interpretation course offered at NEVHC.
12. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and another patient/client information.
13. Ability to utilize electronic medical records effectively to intake and document patient information and schedule appointments.
14. Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
