POSITION SUMMARY

 

Under the direct supervision of the Medical Manager, the Medical Receptionist will assist in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the medical schedule. Incumbent will be responsible for basic and routine scheduling of patients including specialty providers, answering multiple phone lines, entering patient data into a computerized system as well as entering and checking insurance information. Incumbent will perform other clerical functions as required.  In the absence of a Patient Coordinator, the Medical Receptionist will work under the direct supervision of the Medical Manager.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Schedules basic and routine appointments for patients.
  2. Answers and screens phone calls directing callers to the appropriate staff member or department.
  3. Enters patient registration information into computer.
  4. Verifies and updates patient registration data and insurance information.
  5. Checks patient insurance eligibility.
  6. Assists with entry of other information into RPMS System as required.
  7. Ensures eligibility for each visit daily and process information accordingly.
  8. Processes patient self- pay applications.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Must possess High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  2. 1 year of office experience and/or training in medical office procedures and patient records.
  3. Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and data base components.
  4. Experience answering multiple phone lines and calls.
  5. Ability to work well with others as a team player.
  6. Must be detail oriented.
  7. Familiar with basic concepts in related field and a basic understanding of other technical functions in related field.
  8. Ability to communicate basic information effectively with peers, patients and management both verbally and in writing.
  9. Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  10. Must possess a valid CDL and be insurable the Tribe’s auto insurance.
  11. Must have Hepatitis B Vaccine or declination form on file. (Vaccine can be administered at Shingle Springs health and Wellness Center)
  12. Post job offer: CPR/BLS certification, TB test and annual flu shot (during flu season) are required as a condition of employment, unless a medical/religious accommodation request is provided. Hepatitis B Vaccine will be offered at no cost to employees, but it is not required.

  1. Bilingual strongly preferred. Spanish/English.
