Description

The Paramedic works with the Transportation Director, Operations and Logistics Manager and EMT-B as part of the inter-facility transportation service for the Health Care District. Duties include providing ALS and BLS medical support to patients during ambulance transport between facilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all aspects of patient care from the time of patient contact until transfer to a higher level of care. 
  • Has a basic understanding of stress response and methods to ensure personal well-being. 
  • Provide consistent, high quality Advanced Life Support level care as outlined by the Health Care District’s Standard of Care, Protocols, and accepted local and national treatment doctrines. 
  • Drives and operates ambulances and other company vehicles safely, in accordance with established emergency driving guidelines. 
  • Acts as a representative of the Health Care District, displaying integrity, confidentiality, and competency with patients, their families, the public, other agencies, coworkers, and Health Care District’s management. 
  • Maintain currency of all required certifications and licenses. 
  • Responsible for timely, legible, report writing. 
  • Assess each call to determine the best course of action while working in the guidelines of your Paramedic protocols.  
  • Utilizing Paramedic skills on medical equipment and procedures including, defibrillator, EKG, cardiac monitor, oxygen and suctions devices, airway management, IV skills, medication administration. 
  • Act as a Paramedic team leader to educate, mentor and facilitate the work flow for the shift. 
  • During downtime, assist in the ER at Lakeside Medical Center as needed. 
  • Works collaboratively in a professional manner with all Health Care District employees and other agencies. 
  • Communicate with patients and loved ones to provide information and assurance that care is being given. 
  • Emergency duty may be required that includes assisting community or hospital-based organizations. Staff will be directed to perform other emergency duties based on clinical experience including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural. 
  • Lifting the stretcher (be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.) 
  • Learning new skills that pertain to Critical Care transport 


Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Education or GED equivalent
  • Graduation from an accredited Paramedic school

Experience:

  • One (1) to five (5) years related experience in emergency transport and emergency medical services
     

Certification:

  • EVOC Ambulance course certification required or upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • CCP (Critical Care Paramedic) or FP-C (Flight Paramedic Certification) preferred 
     

Licensure:

  • Current, State of Florida Paramedic license required
  • Current, valid State of Florida Driver’s License required

Training:

  • Basic EKG Continuing Education
