Job Summary
Under indirect supervision or independently, the Pediatric Dentist diagnoses and treats problems with pediatric patient teeth and tissues of the mouth along with providing patient guidance to prevent future oral problems. The Pediatric Dentist designs treatment options for patients with other support personnel and serves as an expert in preparing dental plans. This position must provide patient and practice support services; including, but not limited to, personal assistance, medical attention, and emotional support. The Pediatric Dentist provides comprehensive oral care and treatment for children from infancy through their teenage years.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
Examine pediatric patient mouths for diagnosis of oral health, training, and treatment needs.
To educate the patient and parent/guardian in the prevention of dental caries and other dental conditions.
Provide treatment in accordance with standards of care, to include but not limited to:
Visual exams
X-ray reviews
Removing tooth decay
Prepare teeth to place and finish composite/amalgam restorations
Applying sealants
Administering anesthetics and sedatives
Repair of fractured teeth and placement of stainless-steel crowns if needed
Tooth extractions
Replacing teeth with removable appliances and space maintainers
Write prescriptions for antibiotics and pain, as necessary
General oral care
Refers to specialists, as needed.
Manage asepsis, infection, using and maintaining hazard control protocols as established by OSHA and office standards.
Always maintain the highest level of confidentiality to HIPAA standards.
Adhere to strict safety guidelines and procedures to OSHA and office standards.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor of Science Degree.
Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).
Licensed specialist in Pediatric Dentistry.
Current Dental Licensure and good standing with state dental board (MA and or NH), and state and Federal DEA
Meets the professional, ethical and moral standards of the American Dental Association
Board certified in Pediatric Dentistry preferred.
Hospital privileges to treat advanced pediatric cases preferred.
