Pharmacist
Description

The Lloydminster Co-op Marketplace Pharmacy is currently recruiting for a Temporary Full Time (Maternity Leave position) Pharmacist. The term of this position will be February 2025 to November 15, 2025.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Be familiar with and adhere to the current Standards of Practice for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians put forth by the Alberta College of Pharmacists

Perform initial assessment of all prescriptions to ensure completeness, appropriateness, safety and efficacy.

Perform medication reviews to address patient specific concerns, assess prescriptions as noted above, make recommendations for treatment and to develop a monitoring and follow up plan agreed upon with patient.

Perform final check on prescriptions. 

Receive and transcribe prescriptions from prescribers – verbal and in person and assess prescriptions for completeness.

Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage.

Monitor the health and progress of patients in response to drug therapy.

Provide information and recommendations on over the counter medications, and advise customers on the selection of medical equipment and health care supplies.

Provide specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, or high blood pressure.

Offer health promotion and prevention activities.

Collaborate with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics.

Administer injections if authorized, following standards of practice as noted above.

Pharmacists with Additional Prescribing Authority may prescribe a schedule 1 medication at initial access or for ongoing medication management.

Mentor Pharmacists and students serving as interns in preparation for their graduation or licensure.

Provide educational information either verbal or in writing for other pharmacists, doctors, and/or patients.

Analyze prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.

Order and purchase pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, and drugs, maintaining stock and ensuring proper storage and handling or oversee these activities.

Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, and registries of poisons, narcotics, and controlled drugs or oversee these activities.

Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and dentists, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or oversee these activities.

Train people to use devices such as blood pressure or diabetes monitors.

Refer patients to other health professionals and agencies when appropriate.

Plan, implement, and maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, and labelling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security and proper disposal.

Advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects of medications.

Complete third party insurance forms and other paperwork.

Train and supervise Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians.

Handle complaints of a minor nature, in accordance with the policy of the Lloydminster Co-op, and to refer more serious complaints to the manager.

Ability to work flexible hours; including mornings, afternoons, evening and weekends

Excellent time management and prioritizing skills

Practical experience through an apprenticeship/internship program

Expert knowledge of pharmaceutical calculations

Proficient computer skills

Attentive to details

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from a Canadian University

Complete a national board examination, the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC)
