Unit: Cardiothoracic Surgery
Unit Description: looking for a perm PA-C with Cardiothoracic experience. PA-C candidates strongly preferred but if APRN candidates have CT Surgery experience, vein harvest experience, they may be considered.
SUMMARY: Provides cardiology health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of Physician to patient in the inpatient and outpatient setting by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Interacts with and interviews patients, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Records clinical patient data in a dictated History & Physical, Consultation, Procedure note, Discharge Summary or other document. Orders diagnostic tests, such as echocardiograms, stress tests (exercise or pharmacologic), x-rays, ECG’s, laboratory tests, and interprets test result. May administer sestamibi tests. Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care with discussion and general supervision of the GTHA physicians. Prescribes pharmacologic and other therapeutic treatment for the benefit of patient health. Performs therapeutic procedures as needed including post-procedure wound care. Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, test results and general medical treatment. Office based component of job may include but is not limited to: office follow-up of post procedure patients, devices implant site checks, follow-up for medication titration, and patient assessments for heart failure, angina, lipid control antiarrhythmic control. May be interpretation of tests such as ECG’s for medication adjustment. Supervision of stress testing in conjunction with nuclear testing may also be included.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Nurse Practitioner: Master of Science or higher degree and certificate of successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program; two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Maintain continuous certification as NP through the appropriate governing body. Cardiology experience highly preferred. OR Physician Assistant: Bachelor of Science or higher degree and certificate of successful completion of an AMA approved physician assistant program; two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Maintain continuous certification as PA-C through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Cardiology experience highly preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write business correspondence, reports and policies. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Nurse Practitioner: Must be a graduate of an accredited NP program. Must hold a valid NP license for the State of Michigan. Must maintain certification from the appropriate governing body. BLS and ACLS certification also required. OR Physician Assistant: Must be a graduate of an AMA accredited PA program. Must hold a valid PA license for the State of Michigan. Must maintain certification from the NCCPA. BLS and ACLS certification also required.

Salary Range is based on skills and experience, relocation assistance is negotiable
On Call requirements: Call is required 1:3
