Job Duties


Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) operates 12 facilities: eight behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability or are in need of substance use disorder services.

DBHDS is seeking experienced Psychiatrists to join our expanding team. As Head of the Treatment Team, this position is responsible for overall clinical leadership of a multidisciplinary treatment team and providing quality psychiatric care to our inpatient population.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assessment/evaluation of psychiatric illnesses; overall clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary treatment team to develop effective and therapeutic treatment plans/interventions; psychiatric medication evaluation and management in accordance with rational psycho-pharmacological practices and documenting response to treatment; enter orders for diagnostic tests, medications, and other therapies and collaboration with consultants; attend court hearings on campus; timely completion of medical record documentation in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, regulatory standards and guidelines; coordination and continuation of the care for patients in adherence to state and federal guidelines and discharge planning; and serving as an on-call physician when scheduled as needed.


Minimum Qualifications


Must have a MD degree or an equivalent.
Must be a graduate of an approved psychiatry residency program.
Must possess a license to practice medicine and surgery in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Must possess a Federal license to prescribe medications.


Additional Considerations


Certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Clinical experience in forensic psychiatry.
Veterans and people with National Service.
Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
