Summary:
The psychiatrist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental health issues. They provide counselling, therapy, and medication management, and work with other healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and treat mental illness, including mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, and substance abuse.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for patients in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
- Provide psychotherapy and counselling to patients.
- Prescribe medication as necessary and monitor patient response to treatment.
- Conduct evaluations to determine the appropriate course of treatment for patients.
- Maintain detailed records of patient care and treatment.
- Stay current with new research, medications, and therapies in psychiatry.
- Attend meetings and participate in interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree
- Board certification in psychiatry
- Valid state medical license
- Knowledge of pharmacology and medication management
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
