Position Summary:
Provide psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment; and development, maintenance, and supervision of medication and psychiatric and medical treatment.
Essential Accountabilities:
- Provide community based services; the initial assessment visit must be in the community and monthly community visits thereafter.
- Conduct psychiatric assessments within 30 days of admission and annually thereafter, including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination and DSM V diagnoses and present assessment results at daily team meetings and treatment planning meetings.
- Collaborate with the treatment team in comprehensive assessment of psychiatric history, mental status, and diagnosis; physical and dental health; use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living and family structure and relationships.
- Collaborate with the nurses in assessment of client physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and coordinating medical treatments with psychiatric treatment.
- Prescribe psychotropic medications and conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects and educate clients regarding psychotropic medications.
- Perform individual, group and family supportive therapy and illness education in the process of carrying out the tasks above.
- Along with other team members, provide support, education, and counseling to family members of clients to help them become knowledgeable about mental illness, collaborate in the treatment process and assist in their family member"s progress.
- Provide on and off-site crisis assessment and management of patients during regular work hours, both on-site and over the phone, during other hours, and as on-call backup.
- Be actively involved in both acute and long-term psychiatric inpatient treatment of clients including initiation and facilitation of admission to the hospital; regular communication and consultation with the attending psychiatrist; frequent visits to clients in the hospital; and along with other team members, collaboration with the inpatient staff in the planning and implementation of treatment and discharge to the community.
- Regularly attend daily team meetings at least 3-4x per week.
- Direct and collaborate with the nurses to develop, revise, maintain and supervise team psychopharmacologic and medical treatment and medication policies and procedures.
- Receive supervision by and report to the Medical Director and/or Division Director.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Work schedules and locations subject to change.

Qualifications:
- Must have an M.D. from accredited institution,
- Registered and Licensed to practice in New York State, admitting privileges in targeted hospitals, and at least two (2) years" experience diagnosing and treating a mental health population.
- A clear understanding of the characteristics and problems of adults with severe mental illnesses and be knowledgeable about the ACT model.
- Computer proficiency, including the ability to use email, navigate and enter all documentation into electronic medical record.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and knowledge of group dynamics required
- Valid driver"s license and vehicle required - candidates are subject to regulatory background checks

Compensation: $150,000.00 - $160,000.00 Annual
