Who are we?

PsychPhys is an Australian Primary Health Care Practice and the only program of its kind within Australia. We have an expansive footprint spanning across some of the largest single low socioeconomic communities in Victoria.

Our programs have been developed to allow individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disabilities, Learning/Developmental Delays, Cognitive Impairments, and/or Mental Health concerns the opportunity to Shine!

We deliver our programs to individuals between the age of 0-7yrs; 7-11yrs; 12yrs -21yrs; and 21+yrs. We provide provision of assessment, treatment, intervention and support services to government and non-government agencies, schools, Treating Health Professionals, and individuals/families.

The Role:

The Psychologist will play a key role in clinical assessment, 1:1 treatment, multi-disciplinary group treatment, and writing reports as required. The role is responsible for working in collaboration with a small multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of tailored and qualified services and programs to diverse and neurodiverse client groups within the Frankston catchment area.

Role Responsibilities:

Assessment and crisis response:

  • Mental health assessments, including completion of mental state examination, case formulations, relapse prevention plans and individual treatment planning.
  • Administering Clinical assessments (Cognitive,Autism Spectrum Disorder; ADHD; Academic and Mood/Personality)
  • Provision of risk assessments and development and implementation of appropriate crisis response and safety plans.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat slight or severe mental, emotional, or social disorders.

Clinical Interventions:

  • Develop individualised treatment plans for each client
  • Respond appropriately to clients’ mental health and developmental needs.
  • Provision of evidence-based psychological and psychosocial therapeutic interventions that promote recovery and safe independant/supported living

Clinical Processes:

  • Participation in the regular program assessment meetings, clinical review meetings and providing comprehensive presentations of individuals for treatment planning.
  • Internal consultation and program reviews with other team members in order to ensure clients are receiving opportunities for holistic program support
  • Provide written documentation and referral paperwork as per ethical requirements .
  • Comply with APS code of Ethics
  • Participation in regular supervision, professional development and commitment to the continued development of clinical skills and evidence based best practice.

Candidate:

  • Demonstrated experience working within Community Disability and/or working with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disabilties, Learning/Developmental delays, Cognitive impairments and/or experiencing mental illness
  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver and communicate sensitive information with individuals inclusive of culture, age and cognition.
  • Demonstrate organic and genuine rapport building with individuals and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated high level organisational skills – time Management, goal setting, delegation, self motivation, attention to detail, analytical thinking and communication
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to identify risk and ensure mandatory reporting practices are initiated (where required)
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication with particular emphasis on interpersonal communication skill.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality and record-keeping.
  • Demonstrate competence in the use of information technology, internet, and desktop applications; e.g. electronic client record systems, Google Workspace and database packages.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to improving health outcomes in individuals.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical practice and therapeutic interventions and clinical risk management.
  • Understanding of emotional intelligence and the ability to adapt to the individual as required.
  • Understanding of the current mental health challenges in the community.
  • Enjoys health and fitness, and promotes benefits of healthy independent living.
  • Enjoys making a positive impact in the community especially with individuals presenting with ASD.

Qualifications:

  • Post Graduate qualifications in Psychology
  • General, or Endorsement registered with APRHA
  • Membership or eligibility for Membership with AAPi or APS
  • Professional Indemnity/Malpractice Insurance & PL
  • Eligibility for a Medicare Provider Number
  • A satisfactory Police Criminal Check dated within 6 months of commencement.
  • A valid Employee Working with Children’s Check.
  • A current Driver’s Licence
  • Full COVID-19 Vaccination.
  • Experience working in community support services
