Job Summary - The Investigational Drug Service (IDS) pharmacist will support the research mission of the health system by ensuring drug accountability and documentation, assist with build in the electronic medical record, adhere to all regulatory and Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements for clinical trials, and assist with budgeting of clinical trials or other administrative needs for pharmacy services. The IDS pharmacist will represent the pharmacy department in interdisciplinary research collaboration, precept students and residents, oversee pharmacy technicians, and IDS pharmacy operations. The IDS pharmacist must have excellent communication skills and collaborates routinely with physicians, nurses, data analysts, and regulatory personnel in carrying out research activities. The IDS pharmacist also assists with regulatory and IDS best practice and recommendations and will complete off-campus research audits and participate in a rotating on-call pager for IDS pharmacy issues. 

The IDS pharmacy team ensures that all clinical trials with investigational drugs adhere to regulatory requirements and participate on the IRB. The IDS pharmacy team will oversee all operations and clinical education to patients and providers. They support clinical trials activities with WFBH community hospitals, ambulatory clinics, Phase 1 oncology unit, and Infectious Disease clinical trial unit. Clinical trials are expanding significantly for the medical center. The ideal candidate will be adaptable and eager to be a part of this growing service line. The position interacts with external stakeholders and good communication is essential. This position will primarily be focused on oncology with some support for non-oncology clinical trials.

How You’ll Impact Patient care:

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Process medication orders and prescriptions from physicians and nurses.
  • Supervise technicians to ensure timely and accurate medication dispensing, optimizing staff utilization.
  • Deliver pharmaceutical care for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to quality improvement efforts through teamwork.
  • Continuously update and document skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain documentation for compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Set personal goals to support departmental objectives.
  • Provide age-appropriate care following guidelines.
  • Foster a cooperative work environment through effective communication and teamwork.

What You Will Need:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy is required.
  • Current state pharmacist license in good standing through North Carolina Board of Pharmacy is required.

Nice To Have (Not Required):

  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice (PGY1) Residency, Specialty (PGY2) Residency, or equivalent work experience preferred in investigational or oncology pharmacy services. 
  • Experience with chemotherapy and/or IDS preferred.
