SUMMARY

The Obesity and Weight Management Program for treatment, research and education at Connecticut Children’s offers a behavior-based weight management program for children and adolescents. Our specialists help children and their families change behaviors to establish healthier physical and emotional lifestyles. The Weight Management Pediatrician is an important part of the multi-disciplinary team will be responsible for conducting health examinations, identify and develop a care plan for co-morbidities, medication management and other duties as part of the weight management program.  This physician is accountable for delivering comprehensive quality patient care according to standards of practice and functions as a member of an inter-disciplinary team within an integrated academic model.



Responsibilities

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides medical care for obesity and appropriate co-morbidities for a dedicated panel of patients according to evidence-based standards.

Obtains clinical histories, conducts appropriate physical examinations and assessments, orders diagnostic testing and formulates treatment plans.

Documents appropriate clinical information in the electronic health record in a timely manner and completing billing.

Reviews documents including outside records and consultant reports and summarizes information in the medical record.

Determines need for additional services including but not limited to nursing, care coordination, social services, health education, and referral for specialty care.

Participates in regular multidisciplinary clinical team meetings and assists in the coordination of care in a team-based setting.

Refers patients to hospitals for emergency care and admission when needed, and communicates with hospital staff as appropriate.

Uses and promotes evidence-based clinical practice.

Reviews on a regular basis long term cases that require ongoing medical attention.

Consults with Medical Director and other medical professionals as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues.

Participates in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by the hospital.

Participate in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction.

Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.

Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model.

Participate in special programs and services as assigned.

Academic/scholarly work and division citizenship as per division chief.

Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as the collaborating physician for and oversee clinical activities of APRNs and PAs. 
Supervise residents and medical students.
No supervision of direct reports



Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or  EXPERIENCE  REQUIRED

MD or DO Degree, successful completion of a pediatric residency program. Completion of a chief residency or a minimum of 1 year of practice experience preferred.
                                                                                                                  

LICENSE  and/or  CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

Board Certification/Board Eligible Pediatric Medicine         

Registration certificate from the Drug Enforcement Administration ("DEA certificate")

If not already Board Certified in Obesity Medicine, would work toward this certification in the first year in the role
